Kiyomi Matsuo - Comprehensive Development Consultant (Saga University Faculty of Medicine, Center for Education and Research in Community Medicine, Department of Welfare and Health Sciences)

Kiyomi Matsuo is the leading figure in the development of modern wheelchair-type welfare devices in Japan. After a traffic accident during his university years, he has been using a wheelchair and has participated in collaborative research and development of welfare devices with various welfare equipment factories. He holds over 30 patents for wheelchairs, beds, transfer devices, mobility tools, and more. He has also designed living environments for 1,750 people with disabilities and has supported the independent (self-reliant) living of the elderly and people with disabilities for over 30 years. He has served in various roles, including with the Japan Rehabilitation Engineering Association and the Welfare Home Environment Coordination Association, as well as the Japanese Society of Sports for Persons with Disabilities. He is a pioneer in promoting wheelchair tennis in Japan. His publications include "Accepting Disability is Accepting Life," among others.



Shima Product Co., Ltd. (SHIMA) was established in 1958, initially starting as a manufacturer of baby strollers. In 1981, the company officially transformed into manufacturing and selling products for the elderly. They specialize in designing products such as shopping and walking carts, carbon fiber adjustable quad canes, and rehabilitation exercise equipment specifically for the elderly. Their products focus on safety, security, and convenience, helping the elderly lead a healthy life.
